Material Handling with ACC

Using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) existing functions to manage the material handling of components on site.

The Problem

Managing all the material delivered to site, where to store them, how to retrieve the packages & how to search for what is available is a difficult task. A UK-based construction company required a better process of amanaging all this information for the flow of material from purchasing to site delivery through to final construction.

The Approach

Darbury's understanding of both the ACC system & the workflows used on construction sites allowed for a unique process to be developed using exsiting functions in the Autodesk Construction Cloud system without developing further functions.

The process allowed the barcodes already on the delivery boxes / packages to be re-used, a new ACC object created to hold the items data & then assigning storage locations within the building. This allowed the site personnell to search for components accurately, identify the storage locations & making the hand-over to the erection contractors to be as efficient as possible.

The Outcome

Building material is now searchable across all storage areas on site. The contractors could be issued reports stating where all the material needed for a particular area was located. Administration can easily pull a report of non-available material for a particular part of the construction, allowing better communication back to the supply chain department & the contractors.

The AI Angle — 2026

Implementing a system like this today would utilise AI-enabled functions to continually check material availability against requirements. This would enable automatic reporting giving purchasing departments up-to-date information on construction health.
